What is Youth Outreach?

In 1991, The Barbershop Harmony Society and the Music Educators National Conference jointly approved Youth Outreach, a program designed to foster an interest in young men to participate in Barbershop Quartet and Chorus singing.  The purpose is primarily to introduce youth to the joy of singing and to perhaps choose to belong to The Barbershop Harmony Society as a means of continuing to show their love of music.

Our Youth Outreach Program is a free resource for school vocal music programs to encourage participation in Barbershop Style Four-Part Harmony.  These are resources that we can provide for your school:

(1)  Vocal and Choreography Coaching- For individuals, Quartets, Ensembles, and Choruses

(2) Annual Quartet Contest - Local and Regional.  Cash prizes for the winners.

(3) Harmony College East and Scholarships - Annual three-day workshop with special classes for Young Men and Music Educators covering all aspects of Barbershop Singing.

(4) Youth Outreach Evenings - Sing with the North Pennsmen at chapter meetings and participate in the Quartet Encouragement Program.

(5) Loan Program - Musical arrangements and learning tapes available for loan to music educators.

(6) Barbershop Harmony Society catalog - The Barbershop Harmony Society has Musical arrangements and learning tapes available for sale through the Harmony Marketplace website.
