The North Pennsmen are a membership organization of singers who meet regularly to rehearse, perform, socialize, and have fun. We number over 40 singers from all walks of life who live primarily in the northern and western suburbs of Philadelphia.
Our primary focus is performing and promoting barbershop harmony singing in the local area. Each year, we perform public and private shows that we produce, at community events and at semi-annual contests. We also deliver Singing Valentines. We're even available for YOUR next event. If you want a unique musical experience to spice things up, please click Book Us!
We continuously learn the craft of a cappella singing to provide you with the best performance possible. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals. A couple of times a year, a prominent guest coach will conduct a workshop that gives us the latest insights and tricks of the best singers in the world.
The North Pennsmen compete in the Central (formerly Atlantic) Division Contest in the spring, and we compete in the Mid-Atlantic District Contest in the fall. Contests are prime opportunities for quartets and choruses to gather, network, perform and receive constructive feedback from a judging panel. The Barbershop Harmony Society invites the winner of the District's chorus contest to its International Convention and Contest, held annually during the week of July 4th.
Most choruses have a number of members who sing in quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. The North Pennsmen host a number of talented quartets, and we are really proud of them! Click here to learn more.
Did we mention good times?
We are a close-knit, locally focused group of guys. Many of us live in the same neighborhoods, attend each other's family events and support each other in times of need beyond our weekly rehearsals. When we do rehearse, we enjoy our time together as fellow singers and friends. Comeraderie like that is hard to find these days, but it's just part of the deal for members of our group.
The North Pennsmen are a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a non-profit, global organization of approximately 23,000 members who belong to choruses and quartets. Society headquarters is located in Nashville, TN.
